1. Rub Hands With Salt

Wet your hands and pour some salt into your hands.

Make sure your hands are wet, as this will help the salt to cling to your hands.

With the salt on your wet hands, rub your hands to remove any residue and odors from your hands.

Do not pour too much salt into your hands, as you do not want to add a lot of salt and then dump most of it down your drain when you begin to rub your hands.

2. Rinse Salt From Hands

Rinse the salt from your hands and dry your hands.

Check to see if the poop odor remains.

If it does, continue down to the next step.

3. Rub Mouthwash Or Toothpaste On Hands

If salt does not get the poop smell off your hands, use either mouthwash or toothpaste.

Wet your hands again.

Pour or squeeze mouthwash or toothpaste into your wet hands.

Begin to rub your hands together to remove the poop smell from your hands.

Rinse the mouthwash or toothpaste from your hands.

Dry and check to see if the poop smell has been removed from your hands.

If not, continue to the following steps.

3. Squeeze Lemon Or Lime Juice In Bowl

If the poop smell remains on your hand, squeeze some lemon or lime juice into a bowl.

Be sure to pour enough into the bowl so that when you place your hands within the bowl, your entire hands are submerged in the lemon or lime juice.

If you are worried about full-strength lemon or lime juice on your skin, be sure to dilute the juice with water.

4. Soak Hands In Bowl

Place your hands in the bowl and soak your hands.

The citrus in the lemon or lime juice should remove any remaining poop smell from your hands.

After you are done soaking your hands, wash and rinse your hands.

How Does Salt Remove Poop Smell?

Salt’s abrasive grains can help to remove residue that is causing odors.

In addition, salt will neutralize the odors as it is a mild antiseptic, stopping or slowing the growth of microorganisms that would cause odors on the hands.

Salt will not disinfect your hands, so it should be used in conjunction with washing your hands with antibacterial soap.

How Does Lemon And Lime Remove Poop Smell?

Citrus fruits are natural deodorizers, and citrus fruits have natural strong astringent smells that remove the smells of other odors.

If using full-strength lemon or lime juice, consider diluting it with water to avoid any harmful effects from the intense citrus.

Like salt, lemon, and lime juices, do not disinfect your hands and should be used after you have washed your hands with antibacterial soap.

How Does Toothpaste Remove Poop Smell?

Most kinds of toothpaste have antibacterial properties, and these properties help reduce odors from bacteria that may still be remaining on your hands.

The antibacterial properties will not necessarily disinfect your hands, but they will remove the poop smell and leave a fresh minty smell in its place.

Be sure to use antibacterial soap to remove any bacteria before using the toothpaste.

How Does Mouthwash Remove Poop Smell?

Like toothpaste, some mouthwashes have antibacterial properties, which should remove any poop smell from your hands.

In addition, if the mouthwash has alcohol in it, often the alcohol works as a carrier for essential oils, like mint.

These essential oils will help to remove and replace the poop smell with something much more pleasing.

Can I Use Vinegar And Baking Soda To Remove Poop Smell?

Similar to lemon or lime juice, you can use white vinegar to remove the smell of poop from your hands.

You can soak your hands in a bowl of white vinegar.

Vinegar is another natural deodorizer and will help to remove the smell of poop from your hands.

Baking soda can also neutralize odor if you apply it as a paste with water to your hands.

You can let it sit for about a minute, scrub, and rinse off.

Neither will work as a disinfectant, so be sure to use an antibacterial soap to disinfect your hands.

How Do I Avoid Getting Poop Smell On My Hands?

Try to avoid as much as possible allowing the poop to touch your hands.

Use rubber gloves whenever you have to handle poop, such as removing dog poop from your yard.

Using plastic poop bags might not be enough to keep the poop smell from reaching your hands.

By adding an extra layer between you and the poop, you can reduce the probability of the poop smell sticking to your hands.

What If The Poop Smell Remains In My House?

If the poop smell is removed from your hands but lingers in your house, there are a couple of methods to fix this.

You can set out certain household essentials to absorb the smell.

Use white vinegar, salt, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, or even coffee beans.

These everyday household items will neutralize most poop smells by absorbing the odor from the air.
